Time for Knitting!

I've got a great pattern for knitting all-cotton dish cloths. It is in my Grandmother's handwriting on a small piece of paper, stuck to my bulletin board with a pin. I learned this pattern over 20 years ago. I've been knitting them ever since. In fact, I discovered a new yard, a 100% cotton yard for baby clothes that is even prettier and softer and I started knitting them as face cloths. They have a nice bit of texture to them, and make your face feel nicely clean, but are softer than the original yarn.

I just noticed that I've got a number of my old cloths that have begun to unravel. It is an unfortunate problem that arises from washing knives. If you aren't careful you begin cutting the threads. My supply is starting to dwindle so I'll have to get back to work (it isn't like I don't have enough yarn purchased for, oh, say 100 or so cloths.....bad me!)

I've also got several scarves in various states of completion. While it is going to be nearly 70 here today (on November 15, for goodness sake!) I might want to get back to work. I do have a number of scarves already but I like to knit them. I don't knit anything fancy. I prefer to use straight knitting but wild and varied yarns. It will be winter sooner or later.

Beyond my knitting I've gotten sidetracked by a newfound delight in cooking, and in cooking more complex and complicated recipes than just throwing things together. But since my knitting dish cloths goes together with washing all those dishes, I guess I'd better get cracking!

This time of year is actually appealing to me. Despite the fact that I like to sit outside in the sun and it is now mostly dark when I'm home, and despite the fact that it's getting even too cold to do that when it is sunny, late autumn means plenty of time to be indoors and get back to work on my crafts. I am looking forward to a number of activities this fall, from decoupage (I'm going to work on writing notebooks) to making hand-made cards with lots of textures and stamping. I'm going to attempt my first loaf of bread next weekend - if it is not humid and rainy - and after that a second attempt at pie crust from scratch.

I want to get out my pencils, charcoal and paints again, too. I bought a very nice large clip board that holds the piece of sketching paper and some books at Pearl on drawing fantastical creatures (this will be part and parcel of writing children's books).

And I haven't forgot my quilting. I had bought enough fabric to make a quilted shoulder bag. Something small and easy to work with while I'm learning the technique.

Mother bought a sewing machine a gazillion years ago. She's never used it and has lost the booklet, etc. I'm thinking seriously of buying one myself, perhaps with a Holiday bonus if I get one. I hate spending money on clothes and there are such great fabrics and patterns to be had.

Oh, well. So many crafts, so little time!
